Description: | Various works for Vizura Aperta festival, Janjina, Croatia. "The final evening, as the grand finale of the Vizura aperta, begins with a walk into the upper, older part of the Ioannina. After about a hundred meters of ascent of the former Janine Main Street, we come across a half-collapsed, roofless house on whose shabby floor Ben Cain is installing "Posters", with posters printed on both sides saying "Words used to describe the person next to you" ". According to the author's wish, this unannounced program is actually part of a kind of pop-up trilogy, the first part of which appeared in the lobby of the House of Culture for only two hours in the form of an installation "Tables", of four tables covered with white tablecloths, each containing three plastic glasses. turned upside down. In several places, red beads or cherry tomatoes are placed next to these glasses. It's an association with the famous game ' three ', in which one has to guess under which cups a ball is placed to win money. The soon-to-be-present installation hints at the illegality of the game, which takes place across fairs and streets, where its manager often has to change places fearing the police. Stylistically translated and transferred to the space of the 'gallery', it seems to reflect the principle of unfolding, that is, the artist's guessing of tendencies or options that will be confirmed and rewarded by the gallery system. "Not a Ruin" is the third act of Cain's pop-up, also in the form of an installation (made in collaboration with Tina Gverović), located on the old stone terrace, almost at the top of the town, overlooking the imposing panorama of the Pelješac interior. A dozen differently colored B2-format papers are spread across the terrace. Each one has a large stone, the same color as the paper it 'holds'. The scene also evokes the impression of an offer, reminiscent of an exhibition of paintings laid on sidewalks and alleys that are offered to tourists everywhere for sale. Minutes after arriving at the installation site, however, with the help of the audience, the author takes the pictures around the corner as news of an upcoming raid spread." APERTURE VISION |
