Creators: | Al-Ani, Jananne |
Description: | ‘Untitled’ was commissioned by Terra Incognita for ‘Curio’, a series of seven site specific public interventions in the East End of London. It was projected from the Kobi Nazrul Community Centre onto the old Truman Brewery building in Hanbury Street at a scale of over 20 feet. ‘Untitled’ shows a woman repeatedly brushing her hair. Her hair is thrown forward so that her face is concealed. Her identity remains unknown. It was produced following an enquiry into the representation of women’s unbraided long hair in religious art and also references metonymy, the theory within semiotics in which the part stands for the whole. |
