HOMO @ Habitat, The Evolution of British Lifestyle Design

The research field is exhibition information design.The research consisted of adapting two historical venues in Rome and one in Prague for a exhibition of British Lifestyle Design. The exhibition participants included key figures in British design such as Ron Arad who was represented by his classic sofas. The exhibition was curated by Karin-Beate Phillips, Director of British European Design Group. The researcher project title was ‘Programme Director Media’.The researcher’s role within the project was to develop the seminar programme and to design/ project manage the installation of projections on the exteriors and interiors of each of the venues. These were required to be evolving during the exhibition in order to accommodate aspects which were present throughout together with those which were time sensitive such as performances and screenings. He also present a paper UK in EU.The projections described the exhibits, illustrated them and gave information about their provenance, and in the case of the seminar series, the key points in the presentations. The projects had to be in Italian in two venues and Czech in the third. They were therefore key to the viewer’s interpretation of the exhibition and related seminars.More than this however they were designed to add value in their own right, as part of the overall visual experience of Homo@Habitat. The event was linked to a range of cultural institutions such as the European Festival of Student Theatre involving the UK, Italy, France and Sweden.The research was commissioned by the Government’s accredited British European Design Group. Some of the seminar papers were given at further venues under the title ‘Creative Britain’. These included the Jacob Javits Centre New York May 2002, Qingdao Industrial Design Association November 2004 and the Designers’ Centre Shanghai, March 2006.
