Description:

‘Contemporary Photography and Innovative Image Technology Applied to New Architecture and the Conservation of Historic Interiors’ at International Architecture and Interior Design Conference. 8 photographs exhibited at International Architecture and Interior Design conference, Tesinghua University, Beijing, China November 2005 The research field is photography and heritage studies. China’s recent development domestic and business architecture and the creation of new social environments have meant rapid change in urban planning. Aware of the disadvantages of loosing its cultural traditions and heritage, here is an urgency to record its disappearing past. The researcher exhibited a range of photographic images based on an earlier research project carried out for English Heritage. He also gave a lecturer at the conference on the use of a range of new digital image systems to both create new virtual environments of buildings and for use in the recreation of architectural and lifestyle history. Specifically, where historic interiors are in an extreme state of decay or have been subjected to damage by fire or floodwater, image analysis of residual evidence can affect the creation of facsimiles. These may be used as an end in themselves or to aid the processes of historical reconstruction. The researcher also presented a paper ‘Contemporary Photography and Innovative Image Technology’ at the conference.
