Orta Drawing Lab

Even though drawing is an essential component of Lucy and Jorge Orta's practice, they have never shown their entire creative process, which notably relies on drawing. For Drawing Lab, the artists reveal this hidden aspect through stages across three galleries. Key themes summarize their research relating to the preservation of biodiversity, natural resources and social ties, and show an evolving production process. Far from being the simple transcription of each stage, their drawings also feed the reflection and development of their sculptures and installations.
The exhibition also explores how drawing can encourage collaboration. Workshops led by artists will be held in-situ, thus Lucy + Jorge Orta remain faithful to their studio philosophy, based on meeting, exchange, involvement and cooperation. Through these workshops, a collaborative process will be shared.
