Description: | Exhibition to mark the 50th anniversary of the Swiss Cottage Library designed by the architect Sir Basil Spence with the remodelling of one of the interior furnishings, the writing table designed for the library in 1964. Using current digital 3D production processes, the CNC router, ten writing tables are dispersed around the library and used for study. Originally designed for writing by hand, the now digitally manufactured tables support the production of digital text, produced on a laptop computer as adopted by the majority of users. Accompanying this work in the first floor and the Library Gallery is the reshowing of ‘Duodecimo’, a sculpture previously in twelve parts exhibited in the Swiss Cottage Library Gallery 2011. By copying one of the building’s exterior concrete fins, the original artwork brought the physical fabric of the external façade of Swiss Cottage Library into its interior space. Smaller sections of the fins were placed on the library’s permanent generic furniture, taking on the role of plinth/supports. |
