Description: | 'CYFEST: Frames of Reference' 2017 celebrates the tenth anniversary of Cyfest 'to reminisce about its most interesting projects and retrace the events that would show how the festival has developed, grown and changed', as stated by Sofia Kudryavtseva (p.40, 2017) Art Historian and Head of the Youth Educational Centre at the State Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg, Russia. The full page photograph of 'Reciprocal Resonances Refracted' is shown on page 34 of 'CYFEST: Frame of Reference' with further caption details on page 35. This interactive installation was exhibited in 'CYBERFEST 9: Patterns of the Mind' during Nov-Dec 2015 at the Youth Education Centre of the State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg. The photograph was taken by Galya Kovalyova showing multiple-frames of the interactive sound frequencies at once. In 'Reciprocal Resonances Refracted, St Petersburg version', live sound visualisations were projected onto the walls, activated by audience interaction with many percussion triangles suspended in the space. Initially shown at Palazzo Bembo in a collateral exhibition within the 55th Venice Biennale 2013, the St Petersburg version was curated by Anna Frants and Elena Gubanova to be in a much larger room within the State Hermitage Museum. The program Overtone Analyzer allowed interactive sound generation to become visual mark-making through collective, reciprocal sonic improvisation. The increased number of triangles that were suspended in the vaulted space reflected an interest in Russian bell ringing and its collective resonance as visualised zvon. The pronounced angles of the projectors’ placement referenced the dynamism of Russian Constructivist works. Perspex tubes rotated at two revolutions a minute and refracted the sound visualisations into further arcs that amplified perceptions of the sonic space. |
