Description: | 'NothingButTheTruth' is a docufiction, using photography and sound, within which ever multiplying options offer narrative fragments of different public and private perspectives of a single event. I have chosen to take as my material a moment in contemporary history that posed a series of questions, all of them complicated by issues of memory, visual perception and the use of evidence: the political violence of the early 1970s in Italy. Simultaneously a semi-secretive search into an event, a mystery thriller, newspaper investigation, a comic enquiry into the limits of reconstruction, the navigation of the website through these multiple fragments becomes the actual theme of the site. Through perception of visual and audio fragments and their associative power the user makes his/her own emotional sense of the material. The work examines the nature of storytelling and memory in a non-linear medium and allows viewers to immerse themselves in the content and form of the piece without being conscious of interfacing with a computer. The research has been disseminated via the international conference Interfiction IX – arte-Faction, Kassel (2002), Stuttgart Film Winter Festival, media selection (January 2003), The Irish Museum of Modern Art Net, Dublin ( since 2003), Rhizome art-base collection New York ( since 2003) It was reviewed by Matthew Fuller no amnesty in Italy, nettime, 10. September, 2002, and can be accessed at www.nothingbutthetruth.org.uk and is discussed by Helen Sloan, in Ravelling the Mystery 2002. |
