Description: | Migrants Bureau: 'We recognise the influence that culture, geography and social circumstances can have on people’s experiences of our urban landscapes. We curate, research, design and facilitate environmental interventions for trans-local and global communities. Our unique perspective as people who continually negotiate the native and the migrant, the foreign and the local, forms a key part of how we collectively interpret the environment and it’s architecture'. Here, Ishwari Bhalearo interviews Andrea Luka Zimmerman for Migrants Bureau. We explore my working methods in relation to space, architecture, decoloniality, collaboration, waywardness and radical imagination. What is my approach to make work in relation to social and spatial justice; and in particular, what is my approach in working with people not make work about them. We explore how to counter structural violence though radical imagination and empathy. How to imagine a world and work towards it, and how can filmmaking and discursive poetics and live move in tandem and forward together, not instead of, but honoring the various realities and truths presented. How to approach making films with people where ethics are adjusted as a living process, where, thinking of Audre Lorde, difference becomes possibility not separation. This and more themes are discussed with examples of my work given throughout. |
