Description: | As part of this curated exhibition, AppleMac 2017 composed of three cast Jesmonite facsimile laptops sculptures is presented on opposite sides of a worktop table. The surfaces of each sculptural work synthesises, multiple deep finger imprints of manual touch. Here what was once a smooth precision unibody Macbook enclosure, (the original milled from an extruded block of aluminium to allow the casing to become thinner through each new design iteration); presented across each sculptural copy the surface is rendered fluid and mailable documenting the multiple movements of the now absent user. Within the process of casting these temporary marks become permanently embossed, dislocating the original polished, clean finished casing. Self-organization is an exhibition curator by Antonio Ortega (Barcelona, 1968) based on a personal and historical overview of some of the works associated with DIY practices from the 1960s onwards. The exhibition is also an attempt to understand recent art forms and confirm the current validity of such strategies. As Ortega explains, by using self-organization, “these artists have taken control over the production, diffusion, and reception of their works through gestures of empowerment that have resulted in new ways of understanding and experiencing art.” With the collaboration of the Banco Sabadell Foundation, Self-Organization presents 60 works including paintings, sculpture, drawing, photography and video. |
