In Response

In Response was a 10-week project at Chelsea College of Art and Design, culminating in an exhibition of 22 visual essays; each communicating a critical response to the issues/themes of 19th Century pamphlets from a newly-digitised collection at Conway Hall Ethical Society Library. Project workshops had an intercultural, autoethnographic focus; encouraging students to respond from their own experiences/views, rather than considering the ideas from a British history perspective. This presentation reflects on the project in terms of decolonisation, diversity and inclusion, but also in relation to the value of creative cross-institution collaborations, and the opportunities that digitisation reveals.
