Description:	An essay, included in the monograph 'Niko Luoma: For Each Minute, Sixty Five Seconds', exploring Luoma's abstract photography in the context of appropriation, musical composition and open systems as identified by Umberto Eco in his essay 'The Poetics of the Open Work' (1962). The essay proposes that Luoma, working in an abstraction photographic register whilst working to reconstruct significant works of 20th century art, utilises gestures built around photographic sensitivity - exposure, dodging and burning, filtration - to construct a photography that is not reproductive, but generative and subject to potentially new manifestations with each iteration.
