Images From The Endgame - Persia through a Russian Lens, 1901-1914

Images from the Endgame arose from the discovery and documentation of a previously unknown Russo-Finnish photographer and his remarkable collection of photographs, taken in Persia between 1901 and 1914. The research was a substantial, long-term enquiry, beginning in the field in Iran in 1968 and culminating in an internationally published monograph book and the exhibition “Images from the Endgame: Persia through a Russian Lens 1901-1914”, which took place at the Brunei Gallery, SOAS, London.

The research encompassed a wide range of interdisciplinary expertise in geographical, historical, linguistic and photographic domains and involved collaboration with several international institutions, including Museum of Photography in Helsinki and Oriental Institute, Oxford.
