seven x seven (single channel video)

seven x seven (2021) is a single-channel HD video that activates a limited edition artist book/print multiple of the same name. seven remote-filmed participants/performers open up the multiple in parallel asynchrony and animate its several elements of varying dimensions.

The multiple documents the artist's exhibition, A COVEN A GROVE A STAND (2019), commissioned by Firstsite as part of New Geographies, a project initiated by the East Contemporary Visual Arts Network and co-ordinated by Wysing Arts Centre. It also anticipates the related solo exhibition, seven x seven (2021), curated by Mother Tongue for Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art (GI 2021), bringing together new commissions and existing work across installation, sound, film and text. Drawing into relation strands of enquiry into the histories and folklore around witchcraft between the East of England and Scotland, seven x seven accompanies the artist's physical and digital exhibitions for GI2021, and includes original essays by Alexandra Kokoli and Mother Tongue. Audio recordings of both essays featured in the artist's 2-hour programme for GI Radio x Clyde Built Radio (20 June 2021).
