Description: | Drawing from archival images of masks from a diverse range of cultures Lucy Orta has extracted defining features from the original source to recompose new masks. Hybrid objects that connect us across continents and cultures, rooted in ancient rituals and spirit belief systems. The series of 36 masks in Murano glass, express the notion of duality through the transparency and opacity of two glass densities that emphasise the concept of masking; to conceal and reveal at the same time, to express an inner identity, a mask as a metaphor of transformation of material reality into a spiritual essence. |
