Description:

This group exhibition held at the Serpentine Gallery in London in the Autumn 2006 explored a range of different areas of mental health ranging from dementia to depression greatly expanding my understanding of mental health issues in both artistic and practical terms. Voorsanger and Bob & Roberta Smith acted as lead artists of the project and invited several artists to work with service users throughout the North East London Mental Heath Trust, creating artworks that were either collaborations or reactions to the workshops that they created. The other exhibiting were Mel Brimfield, Sally O'Reilly, Victor Mount, Mandy Lee Jandrell, Andrew Lawson and Karen Densham.

Recreating the Leytonstone Centre for Contemporary Art, a gallery run by Voorsanger and Bob & Roberta Smith to house the exhibition in the grounds of the Serpentine,

The LCCA was rebuilt in the grounds of the Serpentine to house the exhibition. Voorsanger oversaw the project and the publication, created workshops with different service user groups and investigated how humour operates for individual and groups. She created two text pieces made in bead (on velvet) for the exhibition and organised a large-scale event for the private view called ‘What's So Funny’ where she turned the Rem Koolhaus Pavilion into a comedy club; Simon Munnery was one of the live acts. There were over 300 hundred people present.

The project was also produced in connection to a sister project with Platform For Art creating a poster and postcard campaign for the exhibition across the London Underground system. The London Underground campaign targeted a specific audience.

A catalogue was produced for the exhibition ‘Hearing Voices, Seeing Things’, published by The Serpentine Gallery, 2006. ISBN: 1-905190-09-03.
