Description: | A Painting Performance staged at Palais de Tokyo The Painting Performance is comprised of fifty individual coloured mirrors (matching the exact dimensions of ipads). Each mirror is handled and performed by a member of the choral ensemble MUSARC. The singers move throughout audiences in public spaces, in this case within the space of Palais de Tokyo. The work references the echo chambers within which we lived, online, during the EU referendum, which saw the UK divided almost in half in its decision to vote to leave the UK, a vote of 51.9% voters for and 48.1% of voters against Brexit. The performers hold the mirrors up to unsuspecting audience members, confronting them to look at themselves, and those around them, captured within the mirrors during the performances. The work opens a social space that puts strangers into dialogue with each other, by disrupting their echo chambers. |
