Between Incomprehension and Forgetfulness: The 4th Bienal de São Paulo

Chapter in an edited book that traces several editions of the Sao Paulo Biennial since 1951. The book was edited by adjunct curator of the 2021 Sao Paulo Biennial edition, Paulo Miyada and published by the Sao Paulo Biennial Foundation. My chapter refers to the 4th edition in 1957 and focuses on the controversies of around that year's jury selection as well as the wider art historical implications of that edition which included exhibitions by the Bauhaus students and teachers, Ben Nicholson and Jackson Pollock amongst many others. It is the outcome of research based on the holdings of the Biennial archive and newspaper articles from the time.
