Description: | The ‘ReGo: Our Story in the Making’ exhibition showcased a collection of bespoke fashion items (jewellery, bags, and garments) co-created by young East Londoners with local brands. The purpose of the ReGo collection is to turn knives – the very weapons that can take a life – into something that can support a life. In fact, the assumption behind the ReGo project is that a knife is only dangerous into someone’s hand; up until that point, it is just a piece of metal. To shift this narrative, metal from knives, received from KnifeSafe, were transformed, through water jet and laser engraving, into items embedded into a bespoke fashion collection. The ReGo products are available for rent via the LOANHOOD platform, and the funds raised from rental will contribute to supporting on-going youth-led fashion activities aimed at creating positive social change. Engaging with multiple media, such as physical objects, the project’s short film and podcasts, the exhibition visitor had the opportunity to experience the journey that has brought ReGo to life, including workshops delivered in local schools, student project briefs and a Collaborative Challenge, alongside hands-on work experience in local fashion brands. Overall, the exhibition demonstrated how fashion activism can be used to shape better lives and address social justice, nurturing sustainability and prosperity for all. |
