Sound, Identity and Territory

Voegelin, Salomé (2021) Sound, Identity and Territory. In: 8th International Congress of Audiovisual Researchers, 23-25 June 2021, Lisbon.

Type of Research: Conference, Symposium or Workshop Item
Creators: Voegelin, Salomé
Description:

The terms territory, territorialization and a vocal, and thus embodied community are very central to my thinking and practising in sound. Their juxtaposition combines the collaborative potential of sounding together, considering the community as that which and those who sound together, contingently, as a sensory community generated in an exchange between bodies and on the in-between of land. - With the notion of territory and territorialisation away from the visual notion of boundaries and maps, visual plans and measurements that present the logic of domination and colonialization of bodies and land towards the dissolution of territory as grounded terrain, into a fluid notion of space as a generative expanse that allows us to rethink the terms of its solidification and how it is known, and the potential to live it differently: naked and in song.
