Description: | Salomé Voegelin was an invited speaker at For Many Voices, Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (MIMA). "At this Study Day, we take an in-depth look at the ideas and references in the work of Mikhail Karikis. Special guests shate their research and insights. Mikhail Karikis' videos, photographs and installations amplify the voices of those who may be unheard or unseen. The first survey of the artist's work, this exhibition includes pieces made across ten years, with two commissioned by MIMA. Karikis develops extensive collaboration with communities, employing listening as a form of activism. The selected works feature elders (female Korean pearl divers and ex-coal miners from Kent) and young people (including primary school children in East London and Middlesbrough)." |
