Women of the Match: Portraits of Brent’s Female Football Stars

This is a series of portraits commissioned by Brent Council that attempt to address the imbalance of representation of people in sport, specifically football.

The series explores the aspirations and ambitions of women who work in football both as professional players as well as in coaching. The portraits were all taken in and around Brent in NW London in areas that are or were key places connected to each person and their sporting career.

The work is being exhibited in various forms around NW London but specifically at Brent Civic Centre and will become a permanent part of Brent Museum & Archives.

Women of the Match celebrates the achievements of women involved in football in Brent, both on and off the pitch. The exhibition will feature photographic portraits by Roy Mehta of the borough’s sporting stars, such as Manisha Tailor, Assistant Head of Coaching at Queens Park Rangers and professional footballer Eartha Pond that will become a permanent part of Brent Museum and Archives collections. Memorabilia including football kit and trophies from participants and the local football community will also be on display.

This exhibition is part of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 heritage and legacy programme funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Brent Council.
