This display of drawings and related material in the Clore Foyer at Tate Britain. Newman invited three other artists (two WCA PhD students and the Drawing Fellow 2003/05) to select the work with her. Each artist selected the work in relation to a theme:- Drawing and Anatomy; Systems, Grids and Other Structures; Space,Transparency and the Page and A Dream Box of Drawings. 'A Dream Box of Drawings' has now entered the Tate Archive as an installation. In addition Audio Arts presented tape of artists talking about how they use drawing in their practice. In tandem with the exhibition Newman led a symposium ' With a Single Mark: The Models and Practice of Drawing’, devising the theme, structure form and content of the event.

Closely following the models developed in ‘The Stage of Drawing: Gesture and Act’, the symposium was inaugurated by keynote speaker, Alain Badiou, and divided into three sessions, each with a different chair: Catherine de Zegher, Jean Fisher, and Michael Newman (all contributors to ‘The Stage of Drawing’ publication). Each Chair led their session from their areas of personal research, elaborating on the overarching theme devised by Newman. The aim of this structure was to first situate the subject of drawing within contemporary practice, then to move to a discussion of a social application of drawing, and finally to elaborate theoretical models through various bodies of knowledge. The sessions focussed on why drawing has in recent years become all pervasively present; considered if the cultural worldview conditions the nature of subjectivity and whether cultural memory and tradition have a role in developing new practices; and considered the fundamental constituent of drawing, the mark, and its fate in the digital age.

A complementary drawing show ‘Verisimilitude’ was also organised the gallery at Wimbledon College of Art.
