Performative ‘Healing’ in Artists’ Moving Image

Walsh, Maria (2022) Performative ‘Healing’ in Artists’ Moving Image. In: NECS Conference 2022: Epistemic Media: Atlas, Archive, Network, 22-26 June 2022, Bucharest.

Type of Research: Conference, Symposium or Workshop Item
Creators: Walsh, Maria
Description:

This conference paper presented films by Rehana Zaman and Jeamin Cha in relation to performative healing in and through the screen. My argument is that the films' methods reflexively model an immersive psychotherapeutic space that potentially enables viewers to maintain the ambivalence between damage and reparation. Performativity is key to the way the films differently maintain this ambivalence, rather than encouraging an either/or position of victims and perpetrators.
