Catalyst Report on Circular Fashion and Textiles

This report presents the results of an environmental science research activity assessment specific to fashion, textiles and technology needs and opportunities to inform a cross-UKRI intervention on Circular Fashion and Textiles (CF&T).

The principal tenet of Circular Economy (CE) is to achieve a fashion and textiles industry with reduced absolute use of resources by designing products, materials and process systems that allow the retention of materials for future use. However, the global fashion and textiles industry, with which the UK intersects, is complex. All elements of the global value chain need to be examined and reviewed to address the most significant environmental issues at scale.

The challenges and recommendations from the FTT industry are largely agreed upon and evidenced through several key reports. This report attempts to situate these recommendations within an environmental science context while addressing the most pressing industry challenges.
