Description: | This film builds on the book, Revival, London 1989-1993 published by Hoxton Mini Press giving an insight into the daily lives of the African-Caribbean and Irish communities in Brent. My aim was to ‘activate’ [https://photomonitor.co.uk/book/revival-london-1989-1993] the images in my archive and give an additional voice to the people represented. I was especially interested in the impact that an unknown image of ourselves outside of the family archive might have in our understanding and recollection of our personal histories. Robert and Brian are twin brothers who recognised themselves in the press surrounding the book and reached out to me to thank me for being included. In this film, I interviewed them, and they talk about growing up in NW London, the way that they found out about the photograph and the advice that they would give themselves now. The work builds on my growing interest in archival practice and the family album. |
