Description: | After Mrs Mills explores ideas of personal and artistic lineage and feeds into a larger body of work by the artist that explores ideas of transience and grief. In it the artist re-performs movements taken from choreographers that have influenced her work, as she moves through a washing line made up from sheets from her late mother's house. Her movement references Trisha Brown's 'Spanish dance' (1973) with its accumulating line of dancers and Pina Bausch's staggering women from 'Cafe Muller' (1978). As she moves a song by Mrs Mills is heard - another hard working woman that used to play in the market where the artist used to work with her mother. |
