Description: | Tenderfoot is a ‘Materiality’ online space where writers, researcher, artists and other individuals are invited to showcase a piece of work to trigger discussions and knowledge exchange between academics and makers about processes of creativity. My invitation, 'The Archaeology of Dust’, is an exploration of the everyday and how it captures the ephemerality of time and space. A personal documentary of thought, through a collection of garments, images and citations that illustrate how the fibrous materiality of dust is transformed and invested with specific acts of historical and cultural contexts during its transient existence. It considers how the traditional approach to material culture has focused on the symbolic meanings of objects and has overlooked the material qualities of ‘things’ and their impact on everyday life in contemporary culture. My contribution reveals the necessity to investigate creative practice through critical conversations using a range of disciplines including material process, histories, theoretical reflection, photography and personal biography. |
