Description: | 1. MUSEUM WEBSITE TEXT: "Diaspora Pavilion: Venice to Wolverhampton re-stages works by seven artists who exhibited in the 2017 Diaspora Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale. 10 February 2018 - 29 April 2018 Larry Achiampong, Kimathi Donkor, Michael Forbes, susan pui san lok, Paul Maheke, Erika Tan and Abbas Zahedi will present new and existing works in this re-configured exhibition that considers the urgency and importance of the Diasporic experience for people of African, Asian and Caribbean heritage in the UK. The original, Venice edition of the Diaspora Pavilion in the Palazzo Pisani a Santa Marina, presented the work of 19 artists whose practices respond to the concept of diaspora. Between 13 May and 26 November 2017, the exhibition features 37 artworks across a variety of media, demonstrating the complexity and continued relevance that diaspora as a lived in reality holds today—while challenging the prevalence of national pavilions within the Biennale structure. The Diaspora Pavilion, Venice 2017 was co-founded by David Bailey, Nicola Green, Peter Clayton and David Lammy and also launched a two-year project providing professional development opportunities to 11 artists with the assistance of ten artist mentors. Diaspora Pavilion: Venice to Wolverhampton is curated by David Bailey and Jessica Taylor." 2.
