Description: | A 3 day international conference in Oxford, curated by Maria Misra. At a time when gender is at the centre of contemporary debate, academics, curators, writers and filmmakers in a set of interdisciplinary discussions asking: How have ideas of gender changed over time and space? Why has the issue become so polarising today? How might environmental, technological and demographic change shape gender politics and identities in the future? My film Wayfaring Stranger + conversation with Xiaolu Guo explored ways of filmmaking as a radical social worldmaking practice. Established binaries are used to deny life, access and hybrid forms of knowing and what practices may allow to make not only spaciousness but imagine otherwise? What does it mean to work from and into life, breaking though conceived notions of what filmmaking is 'meant to be'. |
