Description: | Ripple Rift explores the continuous conversation between an organism and the volatile landscape it inhabits. Inspired by the shape-shifting Icelandic landscape, the piece follows the encounters of an intelligent amoeba, the slime mould Physarum polycephalum, as it navigates its world through a process of chemical sensing, constantly assessing changing conditions and responding to events. The films reveal the highly attuned and endlessly adaptive behaviour of a curious nomadic explorer and invites us to consider our own interspecies relations and environmental sensitivities. Film and edit by Heather Barnett Sound by Matt Donovan The video installation can be single, double or triple screen/projection, depending on configuration of space. |
