Final Report: The Shape of Things to Come – Rehearsing Future Societies with AI and Performing Arts

The Shape of Things to Come is a project exploring the intersection of science and humanities through integrative, transdisciplinary research approaches with a focus on Artificial Intelligence, embodied cognition, speculative design and performing arts. As a medium suitable for experiential encounters and political debate – we envision theatre as laboratory for rehearsal and pre-enactment – in which interactions with intelligent systems and ethical dilemmas can be safely explored through trained physicality, embodied interaction and speculative storytelling. Throughout this report, we’ll alternatively refer to this emerging field of proactive exploration, situated at the confluence of the disciplines previously mentioned, under the name of embodied engineering.
