Description: | The Bomb Factory Art Foundation is pleased to announce One Nation Under a Groove — an exhibition of sculpture, painting, film, and music celebrating the mixed culture of modern-day Britain. Taking place at our Marylebone Gallery from 6th to 31st October, the show will feature the posthumous work of one of the country’s leading abstract painters, John Hoyland, alongside the refined and vibrant minimalism of Rana Begum, as well as work from many other eminent and emerging artists. The exhibition will highlight how our diverse backgrounds and shared experiences have contributed to the creation of a dynamic national culture, resulting in something to be both proud of and celebrated. Modern immigration to the UK, from just before the Second World War to the present day, has introduced Britain to new cultural ideas, musical genres, cuisines, fashion, poetry, film, literature, and dance. This diasporic mix has not only enriched but ultimately formed our national culture. During the exhibition, the gallery will be transformed with a curated selection of installations and mixed media artworks that capture the essence of Britain's mixed and vibrant culture. Alongside this, we are creating a Wall of Sound and Vision room where we will host different musical and film events both historic and contemporary that will highlight many of the genres and moments that have influenced us throughout our lives in the UK. One Nation Under A Groove presents the UK in a positive light, emphasising how our differences have made us stronger and more dynamic. It will offer a platform to challenge perceptions, spark dialogue, and provide a space for discussions about our cultural landscape. It offers a timely exploration of British identity, contributing to who we are as a nation and how we can move forward together. Exhibition curated by Pallas Citroen and Marcus Nelson, films curated by Nora Meyer. |
