Description:	'Kimathi Donkor: Slavery—Emancipation—Art’ was an illustrated lecture for the workshop 'Slavery, Emancipation and Art' organised by the Institute for Black Atlantic Research at the University of Central Lancashire in 2017. The workshop was held to 'explore issues of slavery, resistance, emancipation, identity, race and racism, institutions and collections, curatorial voice and authority'. My talk was part of the panel 'Artists in Conversation' and addressed the theme through an analysis of my artworks 'When Shall We Three: Scenes from the Life of Njinga Mbande' (2010 & 2015), and 'For Moses had married an Ethiopian woman (numbers 12:1)'(2015) The session was co-chaired by Dr Wendy Asquith and Hannah Durkin who put questions to the other participating artist, Joy Gregory, and myself.
