| Description: | 'Teaching Black Art in Thought & Practice’ was an illustrated lecture for the seminar 'Group Speak' organised by the Arts in Education program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 2021. I gave my presentation via online video link on 2nd April, 2021. Group Speak was billed as a 'four-part speaker series on arts, education, social justice'. Please see attached flyer for a full list of dates and speakers. My lecture addressed the theme through a summary of my teaching of Black Art theory and practice at UAL between 2012 and 2018 via the following projects: Happening To Be (CSM, 2012), black art practice (Chelsea, 2016), Black Art Practice (Wimbledon, 2016-2017), Black Thought in Art (CSM, 2016-2018), Black Thought & the Artworld (Chelsea, 2018) and Black Thought & the Artworld (Camberwell, 2018). The session was chaired by Steve Seidel, Director of the Arts in Education Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and, following presentations by fellow speakers Mark Miller (Tate) and Raimi Gbadamosi (Howard), the discussion was opened up for a Q&A. A video recording of the event was made available on YouTube (see below for link). |
