Anagram of Unraveling Narratives: Animated Documentary as Embodied Knowledge

Artist Kim Noce reflects on UNravel, a participatory animation project interweaving Nepalese textile craft, augmented reality and women’s stories. Drawing on feminist, decolonial and materialist thought, the piece takes the form of a visual-textual anagram, where tapestry, animation and documents become a method of thinking, feeling, and knowing.

Kim Noce’s contribution was adapted from a paper presented during Ecstatic Truth IX, an annual symposium dedicated to expanded animation and documentary, with a particular interest in the questions raised by experimental and practitioner perspectives. The 2025 symposium, held on 29th April at VSKK, Prague, explored the theme “Ways of Knowing: practice as research, material resistance and re-presented reality in expanded documentary form.”
