| Description: | This case study examines Whering, a wardrobe optimization app launched in 2021, as a digital intervention responding to three interconnected behavioural challenges in fashion consumption: overconsumption, under-utilization and disposability, collectively described as the Wardrobe Paradox. Drawing on secondary research and user reviews, the study situates Whering within the growing landscape of Wardrobe Optimisation Software (WOS) and explores how its core functions may support more sustainable consumer behaviour. Reviewers reported initial attraction to the app’s fashion, economic and convenience benefits, while many also described positive behavioural shifts in relation to reduced purchasing, increased garment utilization and more informed wardrobe editing. Looking forward, the case identifies opportunities for Whering to strengthen its mainstream sustainability impact. Sector developments such as Digital Product Passports may also facilitate wider WOS adoption by reducing friction in digital wardrobe creation. Overall, the findings suggest that Whering offers an early but meaningful contribution to changing consumption practices and points to the potential of digital tools to support more circular and responsible fashion systems |
