Reality by Design: Understanding the World-Building Practices of Online Conspiracy Theory Communities through Embodied Art Installation

This workshop was divided into three sections: a presentation of the findings of a thematic analysis of online discussions centred around the 2016 Pizzagate conspiracy theory; a period of time to view and interact freely with an exhibition of artworks produced in response to these online discussions; and a period for discussion and feedback at the end. On completion of this workshop attendees gained detailed insight into a case study of the Pizzagate conspiracy theory and the world-building processes that conspiracy theorists engage in as well as an introduction into creative, installation-based and interactive modes of communicating social media research.
