A social model approach to student wellbeing and inclusion

This presentation will highlight the value of the social model of disability as a tool for student wellbeing and inclusion, benefitting disabled and non-disabled students alike. Through scanning environments (physical and digital), curricula and procedures for barriers, the social model acts as a practical, solutions-focused tool to ensure all students are able to thrive. With growing numbers of disabled and neurodivergent students in UK Higher Education, the social model supports us to meet our anticipatory duties under the Equality Act 2010, and acts as a mechanism to reduce awarding and continuation gaps for disabled students.
