Feminist Futures: Work, Health, Spaces

Feminist Futures: Health, Work, Spaces, is a project that was run over 8 weeks in the spring 2026 with 30 MA Service Design (MASD) students, facilitated by the Service Futures Lab, as part of the MASD Design Futures Unit at London College of Communication, University of the Arts London.

The brief asked students to take an explicitly feminist perspective of futures, questioning what futures might be preferable for whom, and who might be negatively impacted in these futures. We looked for those realms in which today women and LGBTQ+ people are still at a disadvantage: health, work and spaces. Students used Critical Design and Speculative Design to engage the public in conversations about potential futures.

We partnered with organisations who are working in these spaces to inform and advise the student projects: For health, the Institute of Gender Medicine, University of Bern, Switzerland and European Health Futures Forum (EHFF) as well as health startup The Daughters of Mars. For work, Pilaa: Equality Diversity and Inclusion Training. For spaces, the Gendered City and the FEM:DES network.
