Meller, Fred (2022) Ecosystem or Eco structure? Is a global curriculum possible? Validating Learning in Performance Experiences through the UNESCO Cross-Cutting Competencies for Educational Sustainability Development. In: No Stone Unturned ELIA Biennial Conference 2022, 23-26 November 2022, Helsinki, Finland.

Type of Research: Conference, Symposium or Workshop Item
Creators: Meller, Fred
Description:

An International conference workshop with paper. Underpinned by Performative Pedagogy the maieutic visual methods of Lego Serious Play of dialogue, scenario and connection are used as a curriculum development strategy. Using storytelling techniques to surface values and ethics, the workshop demonstrates alternative ways the assessment strategy for CSM’s course MA Intercultural Practices was designed and what that meant in practical terms in assessing against UAL’s criteria of Process, Communication, Enquiry, Knowledge and Realisation while also embedding the UNESCO Cross Cutting Competencies for Educational Sustainability Development (SDG’s).

Target 4.3 of UNESCO’s Educational Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) addresses specifically equity in higher education, aiming by 2030, to “ensure equal access for all women and men to affordable and quality technical, vocational and tertiary education, including university.” Designed to embed the SDGs in the course learning outcomes thereby encouraging learning behaviours that relate to UAL and globally recognised emergencies for addressing climate and social justice.

Engaging with the UNESCO Cross-cutting competencies and referencing UNESCO Global Action Programme on Education for Sustainable Development demonstrate a creative, imaginative, innovative and individual approach to democratisation of learning.
(Professor Vicky Gunn, Glasgow School of Art, MA Intercultural Practices, External Advisor feedback)
