Description: | The film takes as its focus the farmstead of the last family working the land in what was once the hamlet of Toho, near Narita in Japan. A site of considerable political contestation from 1966 until 1978 when the International Airport was eventually opened, with protest continuing today, the farm now effectively constitutes an island of organic food production surrounded on all sides by the concrete, metal and tarmac of the airport infrastructure. The film seeks to follow the sounds present at the site as a way of revealing the complex and dynamic relationships the structure life in this precarious environment. |
