Description: | An evening with the journal Photography & Culture. In this talk Alistair O'Neill focuses on the early careers of two young women working in post-war New York: Diane Arbus as a fashion stylist and Maeve Brennan as a fashion journalist. It explores their contributions to fashion magazines such as Junior Bazaar, and then maps a connection to the urban field work that defines their later careers as a photographer and writer respectively. O'Neill's interest in writing about photography comes from fashion history and the study of fashion magazine spreads; it is focused on reappraising editorial fashion writing as a means to understand the production of fashion photography. |
