Politics In Print: voices of the past speak through contemporary artwork

For this series of exhibitions seven leading printmakers were selected and commissioned to respond to the political archive held at the Devon Government Records Office.

As part of my research on the theme of ‘Black’ I looked at some of the issues that can be a barrier for equality, education and their impact on identity and society. Part of this fed into the Politics in Print project. I looked at the slave trade in relation to Devon and Plymouth by researching John Hawkins of Plymouth, considered to be the pioneer of the British slave trade.
