Description: | The essay investigates some of the discontinuities in Robert Venturi’s conceptualization of the façade between his early writing and ‘Learning from Las Vegas’. This is considered in relation to Michael Fried notion of ‘facingness’ in painting. Gregory Crewdson’s recent photographs of Cinecitta in Rome are used as a starting point for the argument. |
