Description: | Donald Smith is the curator for this exhibition. The exhibition is the continuation of a series of exhibitions re-examiningg the ‘new art’ of the 1970’s. The West London Social Resource Project 1972 is a seminal work and is probably the first well documented example in the UK of an artist working on a socially engaged project which is completely dependent on the participation of the public, in this case the residents of west London suburbs. Although the piece has been shown abroad on several occasions this was the first time that it has been displayed here since its original incarnation in 1972. As part of my curating concept I worked closely with Stephen Willats and reworked several elements of the installation to work with the architecture of CHELSEA space and to make use of contemporary technology. |
