Veness, Alex (2010) The game of war. [Performance]
Type of Research: | Performance |

Creators: | Veness, Alex |
Description: | Class Wargames presents Guy Debord’s Game of War; a collective playing of the board game using a replica of the original 1977 design. A film screening was followed by an open invitation to join the game and learn the strategic and tactical skills required for success in the deadly struggle against the global bourgeoisie. For Debord, The Game of War wasn't just a game - it was a guide to how people should live their lives within Fordist society. By playing, revolutionary activists could learn how to fight and win against the oppressors of spectacular society. |
Additional Information (Publicly available): | Class Wargames is an avant-garde movement of artists, activists, and theoreticians engaged in the production of works of ludic subversion in the bureaucratic society of controlled consumption. Alex Veness is a London-based artist and co-founder of Class Wargames. Essentially a painter, his work includes a range of other media, most recently a customised camera he’s named Xenon-Eye. Veness exhibits nationally and globally, and has works in a number of private and corporate collections. In 2007, Veness co-founded Class Wargames with Richard Barbrook. Using his Xenon-Eye camera, Veness has documented his Class Wargames comrades playing The Game Of War at public events and private rehearsals. |
