State of emergency: desert crossings

Hammond, Abigail (2011) State of emergency: desert crossings. [Art/Design Item]

Type of Research: Art/Design Item
Creators: Hammond, Abigail
Description:

Costume designs for 'State of emergency: desert crossings'.

I have a considerable history of working with British based black dance artists, and have now enriched this experience by working with a visiting South African choreographer (Gregory Maqomo). I will be travelling to the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown in July, to interview dance artists in South Africa. This is to carry out research about the difference between culturally integrated movement vocabularies in African contemporary dance and the implications on costume design in comparison with choreographers of African descent making work in the UK.
