| Description: | This exhibition draws together eight artists who use and abuse recognised practices in abstract painting. This mutinous crew are self aware and capable of double-dealing as they swerve back and forth between organisation and impulse. Many of the artists reclaim systems of production, only to throw the viewer off course by introducing the problematic and employing chance or error. Others defy categorisation by puncturing established processes with spontaneity and intuition. Working Against the System is documented in a new publication, About Painting by Transition Editions. |

| Additional Information (Publicly available): | The Exhibiton accompanied an international conference organised by Harald Braun at the University of Liverpool. The conference was connected to the exhibition as follows, bringing it to the attention international multi-disciplinary academics (mainly science, history & geography. I participated in panel discussion at Tate Liverpool on Saturday 15/5/10 Brandon Taylor gave a conference paper and participated in the panel discussion, as did Harald Braun. |
