Description: | Reading between Phillip Zarilli, Helen Thomas and Joanne Entwistle this paper explores ways in which phenomenological and body centred approaches to creative practice in costume can inform the practice of performance making and the role of dress in design-led dramaturgy. I will use examples for work executed with students form the MA Costume Design for Performance, at London College of Fashion, as well as reviewing my own past practice-based research. Through this process I will engage with the performativity of craft, form and materials, embodiment, movement the interaction with both performers and audience. I will focus in particular on my own current experimentation and dialogues within the rehearsal room and the role drawing plays within this. Conference paper for a major international conference to coincide with the launch at the Benaki Museum of “ENDYESTHAI”: To Dress. Towards a Costume Culture. 23 March - 23 May 2010, Benaki Museum - Pireos Street Annexe, Athens. |
